Manchester United defence needs insurance policy already.

In the first week of the Premier League 2011/12 season United are already in a minor injury crisis.   Similar to last season, United have been hit with injuries to defenders Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Rafael Da Silva.

Ferdinand has injured damaged his hamstring and may be absent for up to 6 weeks.  Rafael is sidelined for 10 weeks after dislocating his shoulder.  ESPN Soccernet story.

So already the champions will have to rely on their insurance policy of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Johnny Evans. I'm sure the under studies are up to thjob but any more defensive injuries and fans may be wishing Wes Brown and John O'Shea were still part of the Old Trafford setup.
