Celtic Legends vs Manchester United Legends.

A charity match is to be played between the sides in aid of Oxfam's East Africa Appeal. Following the failure of the late 2010 rains, large parts of the Horn and East Africa region are facing the world's worst food crisis. Oxfam's response includes providing urgently needed clean water and feeding families.

Legends of both clubs and the entertainment world will be taking part in the match. Already confirmed are players such as Henrik Larsson, Chris Sutton, Dwight Yorke, Gordon Strachan, Patrick Kielty, Richard Ashcroft, Ricky Hatton, Nigel Benn, Angus Deayton, Ricky Whittle and Nicky Byrne. Billy Connolly, the Patron of the Celtic Foundation, will be at Celtic Park on the night, and a host of other confirmed as lending support to the event and the fundraising effort are Wayne Rooney, Rod Stewart, Eddie Jordan, Sharleen Spiteri, Dougray Scott and Paolo Nutini.
The line up has swelled further this week with the addition of Manchester United hero Roy Keane. For Keane – who made 326 appearances for Man U scoring 33 goals – the return to Celtic Park will bring back memories of his final season as a player. He returns to Celtic on the eve of his 40th birthday and will surely be looking for a victory to put the icing on his celebrations. The former Ireland international played 10 times for Celtic FC in the 2005/2006 season before retiring on medical grounds.
Truly deserving of his place in The Legends, Alex Ferguson has said of Keane: “Over the years when they start picking the best teams of all time, he will be in there.”
Exec producer Lester Holcombe said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have secured Roy to play. For many of the fans he’s the greatest midfielder that Man U ever had. He never took any prisoners and we’re fully expecting him to bring that same competitive edge to this game.”
Celtic manager Neil Lennon said: "This is a great cause and one we should all support. The charitable spirit and generosity of our supporters is well known and we’re sure our fans will once again lend their backing to support the many thousands of people in Africa who need our help.

F.A. Community shield 2011

It was great to see the reds out in whats the first game of the season if you like.  It may only be a friendly but as last year, everyone wants to win this game. Sir Alex started with a full strength lineup of De Gea - Smalling, Rio, Vidic, Evra - Young, Carrick, Anderson, Nani - Rooney, Welbeck.

07/08/2011 16:15, Report by Nick Coppack at Wembley

City 2 United 3

New players, same old spirit. Sir Alex Ferguson handed four players competitive debuts at Wembley in the Reds' injury-time Community Shield victory on Sunday, but despite the fresh faces United displayed the same never-say-die attitude that has become the hallmark of the manager's modern teams.
In the space of six second-half minutes, goals from Chris Smalling and Nani turned around a two-goal deficit and seized back the momentum Manchester City had stolen at the end of the first period. Then, with the match in the fourth minute of injury time and seemingly poised for penalties, Nani charged down a Vincent Kompany clearance on the halfway line, sprinted clear, rounded Joe Hart in the City goal and slid the ball home to clinch the season's first piece of silverware.
Many had written United off by half-time after goals from Joleon Lescott and Edin Dzeko – albeit against the run of play – had given the Blues what looked to be an unassailable lead. But changes at the break, including the introduction of debutants Phil Jones and Tom Cleverley, prompted a United fightback that epitomised the strength of character Sir Alex so often speaks of.

For me the best players were Nani and Anderson but really everyone did quite well.  Tom Cleverley was excellent when he came on, he thwarted citys' counter-attacks and managed an assist in one of the sexiest goals I've ever seen.

So are we still desperate for another midfield genius to be signed? Or have we just seen one in the making?

Are you ready?!

So here we are, just about to start another new season.  It's been hard for the football fan this summer.  Last year we had the FIFA World Cup 2010 to keep us happy so I fared quite well. Watching Javier Hernandez (Chicharito) for Mexico was a treat, I was so excited wehen I saw the little pea rip through Maradonnas' Argentina I was grinning like a Cheshire cat!  (Get well soon chicharo)  The old favourite who made the Scousers cry had a wonderful tournament also, yes Diego Forlan.  He has just got better and better since he left Old Trafford.
Anyhow, here we are a few days from the F.A. Charity Sheild, in which we face the massive Manchester city.  The pre-season tour 2011 went very well.  Our new signings of Ashley Young, Phil Jones and David De Gea all look like the real deal. And there are still the Sneijder roumours afoot for all you true transfer muppets out there!
Plus I've just sorted my season ticket sat next to my best mate in the Stretford End.

It's gonna be a belter guys n girls so strap in cos the Reds are on the march again!
